About us
New York Outrigger has helped educate thousands of New Yorkers to be safe and confident paddlers while reaching millions of others through high-profile media coverage. Based in Chelsea since 1996, New York Outrigger continues its community mission of providing affordable recreational and cultural opportunities in New York’s waterways through the sport of outrigger canoeing. We offer excitement and esprit de corps while always being safety conscious.
We operate out of the Pier 66 Boathouse located in the Hudson River Park along the West Side Highway at West 26th Street.
New York Outrigger runs the popular Novice Sessions from late-Spring to early-Fall.
New York Outrigger hosts the Liberty World Outrigger Competition on Saturday June 23, 2012.

NYO Ladies at the Treasure Island Classic

New York Outrigger is fielding a woman’s crew to the Treasure Island Classic on Treasure Island, Florida hosted by Kai Ani Ani Canoe Club. The OC6 race will be held on Saturday, October 23. Best of luck to the NYO Women!
NYO Mens Crew at Moloka’i Hoe
October 5th, 2010
New York Outrigger is fielding a mens crew for the first time in 10 years to the ultimate outrigger challenge: Moloka’i Hoe. NYO Men have been training consistently all season and are looking forward to the 41 mile change race across the Kai’wi Channel between the islands of Oahu and Molokai in Hawaii on Sunday, October 10. Having practiced their water changes in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean and thoroughly marinated in the grit of the Hudson River, NYO Men are looking forward to showing everyone that the island tradition of outrigger canoeing is flourishing on the island of Manhattan.
Novice Sessions End for 2010.

The Novice Sessions have ended for the 2010 Season. Word spread quickly through features and articles in TimeOut New York Magazine, an interview on NY1, and through word of mouth. It made the 2010 Novice Season the largest and most popular season yet with nearly 200 individuals participants going out at least once. NYO at Blackburn Challenge

NYO continues to perform well this season. The club made a great showing at the Blackburn Challenge, a 20+ mile circumnavigation of Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
- NYO Women win First Place in the OC6 Women category for the second year in a row and fifth place overall with a time of 3:09:00.
- NYO Men win Second Place in the OC6 Men category and fourth place overall with a time of 3:04:01.
- NYO’s Brent Beck wins Second Place in the OC1 Men category with a time of 3:12:11.
Congratulations to those who participated and many thanks to the Cape Ann Rowing Club for organizing a great race and a great post-race feast.
